In line with the Botswana Life Insurance Limited (Botswana Life) Board’s ambition for the business, and following approval by the NBFIRA, we welcome Ronald James Samuels as Botswana Life’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Samuels will be based at Botswana Life’s Head Office in Gaborone, and takes office on the 1st of November 2018.
The Board of Botswana Life are confident that Mr. Samuels’ strong background and nuanced market and industry insights will assist the business in its continued ambition to lead the life insurance sector by example. This includes providing customers with compelling value propositions, whilst creating meaningful stakeholder value for the business, an in the overarching BIHL Group.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr. John Hinchliffe, Botswana Life Board Chairman said, “The Board is confident that Ronald’s extensive experience and strategic approach will serve the business well. We are grateful to BIHL Group CEO, Catherine Lesetedi, for stepping in as Interim CEO during this time, and now look forward to Ronald taking the reins to continue working to enable Botswana life to realise its full potential.”
Mr. Samuels joins us from Sanlam Group after a period of extensive experience across multiple disciplines which spanned over 24 years. Mr. Samuels began his career at Old Mutual in South Africa. Since then, he has held a number of well reputed management and leadership positions in the Sanlam Group. This includes: Financial Advisor, Business Development Manager, Regional General Manager, Head of Sanlam Connect. He later went on to act as the General Manager: Distribution Support at Sanlam Employee Benefits, as well as Managing Director of the same. Most recently, he served as the CEO of Sanlam Fiduciary Services, based in Cape Town, South Africa.
